Distributed Multi-Vectored Propulsion (DMVP) System

DMVP distributes several individually gimbaled thrusters across an airframe, so that force and moment can be commanded directly rather than through attitude changes. The result is an aircraft that can translate, hover and maneuver aggressively without first having to pitch or roll into position.

Developed as an undergraduate thesis project at the Micro-Engine Laboratory, Beihang University (BUAA), under Prof. Zhi Tao, the work produced an omnidirectional gimbaled mechanism based on a ring gear and a full electric-powered demonstrator. The technology was protected by three Chinese patents and subsequently licensed to Expert Aviation Technology Co. Ltd (Exptech) to prototype an eVTOL UAV, and presented at the 17th China Hi-Tech Fair (2015).
